S Class Scoops Awards

Mercedes-Benz' S-Class is enjoying a great start to 2014 with two prestigious awards already under it's belt. Days after being named Best Luxury Car in the Car Buyer Awards, What Car has also crowned it  the best in the luxury car category. Watch out for Vehicles4work's deals on the S-Class coming soon to our website (or if you can't wait, call us today on 01563 542820). In the meantime, here's what Mercedes-Benz had to say in their recent media release.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been named Best Luxury Car by What Car? Magazine.

The S-Class was judged against demanding criteria – What Car? stipulating: “Luxury cars are all about wafting you along in a bubble of calm, so a soothing ride and exceptional noise suppression are key. A cabin made from the finest materials and lovingly put together are other prerequisites, as is a sense of well-being, whether you’re driving the car or employing someone to do it for you. Running costs are less important than with other cars, but you don’t get to run a luxury car by throwing your money away, so low tax bills are a bonus.”

Chas Hallett, What Car? Editor-in-Chief, commented: “We expected the new Mercedes S-Class to be good, but even we didn't expect it to set a totally new standard by which all other luxury cars are judged.”

In eight years, the S-Class has won the accolade of What Car? Best Luxury Car seven times and this latest win reaffirms its position as the leading luxury car in the UK – a title supported in the registration figures for 2013.

The latest S-Class is lighter, more efficient, cleaner, safer and packed with even more technology than its award-winning predecessor.  The S 350 BlueTEC returns 51.4 mpg, according to official fuel consumption figures, while emitting just 146 g/km of CO2 and is available from £62,650 OTR.  The full model line-up will be complete later this year when the S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, the innovative S 500 Plug-in HYBRID and the range topping S 65 AMG join the S 350 BlueTEC, S 500 and S 63 AMG.

Gary Savage, Managing Director Mercedes-Benz Cars UK, commented: “The new S-Class has only just arrived in the UK, and to win What Car?’s Luxury Car of the Year Award so soon is a terrific achievement.  The S-Class is packed with safety, technology, comfort and refinement, and also with plenty of space – and it is this luxurious blend that clearly appeals to UK customers.

“Being the UK’s best-selling luxury car shows that our designers, engineers and product team have created a range that not only makes rational sense, it creates a great emotional reaction from people who are driving – or being driven – in an S-Class.”

Following the lead of its pioneering forbearers, the S-Class continues to innovate.  It’s the first vehicle in over 100 years to not contain a single light bulb, with LED technology being employed throughout the car.  The S 500 L is also the first car in the world to detect and deal with bumps on the road ahead with the optional Magic Body Control system.  Unevenness in the road surface is monitored by the Stereo Multi-Purpose Camera, which then adapts the suspension in advance, reducing the impact of bumps and dips – creating an incredibly smooth ride.

Also recognised in the What Car? Awards was the new E-Class Cabriolet – being named as the ‘Best Buy’ in the more than £35,000 price bracket in the Open-top Car category.

The Awards come at the start of what promises to be an exciting year for Mercedes-Benz in the UK – with a stronger market position than ever before following record 2013 registrations – fresh additions to the range include a new C-Class family, and the GLA-Class compact SUV, which will be among a series of models being introduced throughout the year.- See more at:
